The premiere was held at All Hallows church in the Burley area of Leeds and was attended by about 80 people. The film has been made by Juman Quneis, a Palestinian filmmaker from Ramallah in the West Bank, who, until recently, was studying in Leeds.\u00a0<br><br>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Palestinian journalist and film-maker Juman Quneis speaks to the Canary\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Csvs9gsMoiQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\nShe recounts that the idea for the film came about when\u00a0she was just walking through central Leeds on a Tuesday lunchtime and was intrigued to see a\u00a0Palestinian\u00a0flag.\u00a0When she moved\u00a0closer,\u00a0she saw that it was a group of women, all dressed in black, with banners saying ceasefire now\u2019 and \u2018stop the genocide\u2019.\u00a0This was the <a href=\"https:\/\/womeninblack.org\/vigils-arround-the-world\/europa\/united-kingdom\/vigils-arround-the-world-europa-united-kingdom-leeds\/\">Leeds Women in Black<\/a> group who hold an\u00a0hour-long\u00a0silent vigil every week in Dortmund Square.\u00a0After talking with some of them, the idea of making a film about the individuals who take part in the vigil\u00a0took root.\u00a0She was surprised by the level of knowledge about the Palestinian struggle and that women living so far away and with little, if any, direct connection to\u00a0the Middle East should commit themselves to doing this on a regular basis.\u00a0The result is a well-crafted and insightful look\u00a0at the background to the motivations and thinking of the women who set up this group.\u00a0<br><br>At the start there were often less than a dozen women taking part.\u00a0Nowadays the numbers have grown to between 30 to 40.\u00a0Members of the Leeds Diocese Pax Christi often are part of the vigil and one, Carol Burns, is interviewed\u00a0in the film.\u00a0<br><br>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg\" title=\"20251204_184655\" alt=\"Juman and Carol\" srcset=\"https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/c4652100.myzen.co.uk\/jp2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20251204_184655-scaled-1.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/> Juman and Carol\nJuman is enthusiastic about showing this film to, in particular, Palestinian women&#8217;s groups.
